What is Origin Pulse?

Origin Pulse is Origin's proprietary event tracking system. It is designed to capture more visitor activity than standard analytics platforms, giving you more complete attribution data and a clearer picture of what's driving your store's performance.

How Origin Pulse works

Origin Pulse combines several tracking methods that work together to ensure events are captured accurately and reliably.

Server-side tracking

Unlike traditional analytics tools that rely solely on browser-based scripts, Origin Pulse tracks events at the server level. This means events are recorded even when browser scripts are blocked (for example, due to ad blockers or visitors rejecting cookies), are delayed, or fail to load - common causes of data loss with standard tracking setups.

Origin Pulse does not require cookies to function. It uses privacy-preserving methods to recognise and attribute sessions. This makes tracking resilient to browser restrictions (such as Safari's ITP) and ad blockers that routinely discard cookie-based data.

Shopify session integration

Origin Pulse integrates directly with Shopify's native session data. This gives it access to first-party signals that are not available to third-party tools, allowing for more accurate identification of visitors and their journeys through your store.

GDPR compliance

Origin Pulse is built with privacy regulations in mind. It does not rely on consent-dependent cookies for core tracking, which means it continues to function in compliance with GDPR requirements — without needing to wait for cookie consent to be granted.

Why it matters

Most analytics platforms miss a significant portion of your store's traffic. Ad blockers, browser privacy settings, and slow page loads all cause events to go unrecorded. This leads to under-reported conversions, incomplete customer journeys, and attribution data you can't fully trust.

Origin Pulse is designed to close that gap. By combining server-side tracking, cookie-less identification, and native Shopify data, it captures a higher proportion of real visitor activity — so the data you act on reflects what's actually happening in your store.

What this means for your store

  • More visitors tracked — fewer sessions lost to blockers or browser restrictions
  • Better attribution — understand which channels, campaigns, and products are genuinely driving revenue
  • Reliable data — consistent tracking regardless of a visitor's browser settings or device
  • Privacy-safe — compliant with GDPR out of the box, no additional configuration required

Frequently asked questions

Does Origin Pulse require any setup?

Origin Pulse is enabled automatically when you install the Origin Pixel on your store. No additional configuration is needed.

Will it affect my store's performance?

The Origin Pixel is run in a sandbox on your store, separate to the rest of the code. This means there is minimal impact on your store's front-end load time.

How is this different from Google Analytics or Meta Pixel?

Standard tools like Google Analytics and Meta Pixel are primarily browser-based and depend on cookies and scripts that are frequently blocked. Origin Pulse uses server-side tracking and Shopify-native data to capture events those tools would miss entirely.
